Live Blogging 2008 Emmy results

Catch tonight’s Emmy results as they happen:

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy: Jeremy Piven, Entourage
(sigh. Three years in a row? Ever get tired of self-wanking Emmy voters?)

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy: Jean Smart, Samantha Who

(Yay! Original and rewarding new shows! Go Emmy voters! Hmm, I wonder if this is how the whole night will go)

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama: Zeljko Ivanek

(Can I buy a vowel? thank you imdb.com for the spelling)

Side comment: Love Ricky Gervais. Go see Ghost Town immediately, btw

Outstanding Directing for a variety, music or comedy program: Louis J. Horvitz, 80th annual Academy Awards

Almost funny. Good effort, but stick to directing, Louis.

8:42 p.m. Conan is funny. No surprise here.

Outstanding supporting actress in a Drama: Diane Wiest, “In Treatment”
Steve Carrell is the butt of so many jokes, but he does it so well. Apparently he’s getting the Emmy of every absentee winner tonight :)

Outstanding writing for a variety, music or comedy program: A bunch of people from The Colbert Report

Sorry- too busy laughing to catch the names. Shockingly the first for them. Damnation people.

Overdue Outstanding Emmy for Best Comedy Writing: Tommy Smothers, Smothers Brothers ComedyHour
Good call Academy.
“There is nothing more scary than watching ignorance in action.” Good call, Tommy!

The big Emmy medley. You Tube post to come.

Outstanding lead actress in a miniseries or movie: Laura Linney, John Adams

Lot of filler here.

Outstanding variety, music or comedy series: Daily Show with Jon Stewart

Not that Jon and co. don’t deserve it, but another year, another shut out for Bill Maher.

Creative Arts (70 of ‘em): We covered this before but best guest actor in a comedy series was Tim Conway for 30 Rock; best guest actress in a comedy series was Katherine Joosten for Desperate Housewives

Outstanding director in a comedy series: Barry Sonnenfeld, Pushing Daisies
Oh, I called that one. Hit save five seconds before the announcement. Good gamble, huh?

Outstanding writer for a comedy series: Tina Fey, 30 Rock
Rock on, Tina!

Outstanding Made for Television Movie: Recount

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries, Movie or Dramatic Special: Tom Wilkinson, John Adams

Outstanding Directing in a Miniseries, Movie or Dramatic Special: Jay Roach, Recount

Outstanding Writing for a Miniseries, Movie or Dramatic Special: Kirk Ellis, John Adams: Independence

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie: Dame Eileen Atkins, Cranford

Kathy Griffin is very cute with her love of Don Rickles and Rickles is amazingly funny and over the line. What a role reversal. Love the McCain/Palin joke. And what, praytell, is up with Kathy’s hair? Eeeeps.

Outstanding Reality Competition Program: The Amazing Race
Yawn.

Outstanding miniseries: John Adams
Tin Man was robbed!

Outstanding individual performance in a variety or music program: Don Rickles, Mr. Warmth the Don Rickles Project

Again old news:
Outstanding guest actor in a drama series: Glynn Turman, In Treatment
Outstanding guest actor in a drama series: Cynthia Nixon, Law and Order: SVU

Outstanding director in a drama series: Greg Yaitanes, House

Outstanding writing for a drama series: Matthew Weiner, Mad Men

Outstanding lead actor in a miniseries or movie: Paul Giamatti, John Adams
Ricky was robbed.

Outstanding lead actor in a comedy series: Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
Complimenting writers, good thing in my book.

Outstanding lead actress in a drama series: Glenn Close, Damages
That was a given. She’s divine.

And the weepy dead Academy members montage. Sigh. Estelle Getty, Sydney Pollack, Ron Leavitt, Bernie Mac! (oh man, that’s fresh), Tim Russert (with a hilarious Hilary clip), George Carlin… too many. Every year it’s too many.

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series: Bryan Cranston, Breaking Bad
Never have meth labs been funnier.

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy: Tina Fey, 30 Rock

Outstanding Host for a Reality Competition: Is Hilarious.
Jimmy Kimmel should get an award for the hilarity.

And after the break, the answer is: Jeff Probst, Survivor (whatever the heck season it was)

Outstanding Comedy Series: 30 Rock
Way to pimp it Tina. No GE endorsements?

Outstanding Drama Series: Mad Men
Seriously if this hadn’t won I think there would have been a riot in the house.
