‘Smokey and the Bandit’ star dies at 71
Jerry Reed, best known for his work as a singer and actor in car chase movies like “Smokey and the Bandit,” died of complications from emphysema early Monday.
Both a singer, guitarist and songwriter, Reed had hits in the 70s and 80s that included”When You’re Hot, You’re Hot,” “Amos Moses,” “The Bird” and “East Bound and Down.”
His acting career included movies such as “Smokey and the Bandit” with the mustachoed man himself, Burt Reynolds, and Reed appeared as a coach in Adam Sandler’s “The Waterboy” in 1998 and his music appeared in recent episodes of “My Name is Earl.”
