‘Dancing with the Stars’ competitor injured

Misty May-Treanor is down, but she may not be out. is probably out.

The “Dancing with the Stars” competitor and Olympic gold medalist volleyball player was injured Friday. An ABC spokeswoman said her condition – and whether she’ll continue to dance – will be addressed on Monday’s live performance show.

May-Treanor is partnered with Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

The show’s producers said in a statement released Saturday: “Despite previous reports, she did not break her ankle. She is resting comfortably at home. Doctors will re-evaluate her condition on Monday and determine the outcome of her participation on the show.”

UPDATE: Castmate Brooke Burke confirmed in a radio interview on 104.3 MY fm’s Valentine in the Morning that May-Treanor would be out of the competition.

“It’s such a sad situation,” Burke said. “She did hurt her Achilles tendon. I don’t know if she tore it or she ruptured it. It happened this week. She’s out of the competition, I mean, just like that.”

May-Treanor may need surgery for her injury, according to Burke.

“Forget about the competition,” Burke said. “This is her jumping mechanism, so we’re all really concerned for her. She may be having surgery this week. We don’t know yet. But it’s such a bummer.”

“You take somebody like her who’s a supreme athlete,” Burke said, continuing, “(and) you think she’s one of the strongest in the bunch. We’re just doing stuff we’ve never done before and pushing our bodies to the limits. And just like that it’s over for her.”

Maybe this show is jinxed. Actor and comedian Jeffrey Ross got a scratched cornea when his partner Edyta Sliwinska accidentally poked him and one of the pros, Karina Smirnoff, sprained her ankle the first week.

Someone should check to see if Jeff Gillooly, Shawn Eckhardt and Shane Stant were in the area at the time of the “unfortunate mishap.”
