Billie Piper takes on a new role: motherhood

Billie Piper is probably wishing she had access to the Doctor’s time machine to add a few hours to the night. The actress, who went from pop star to on-screen sensation as the new companion in the “Doctor Who” relaunch, is taking on the exhausting task of motherhood.

The 26-year-old singer and actress gave birth to a son, Winston James, in October. Winston was born by caesarean section at 1 a.m. on Oct. 21 at the Portland Hospital in London. He weighed 6lb 11oz.

She and her second husband, actor Laurence Fox, were recently spotted at the supermarket near their home in West Sussex with baby Winston for the first time.

The Daily Mail reports that Piper “gazed tenderly at her son while his father held him before placing him in the family car. But her face soon changed to a picture of sheer exhaustion, no doubt as a result of nights interrupted by the need for regular feeds.”

News of Winston’s arrival was announced by Billie’s first husband, Chris Evans. The Radio 2 presenter said: “Mum is very happy and I am really pleased. There are some tears of joy there.”
