Michael Phelps pot photo surfaces

Someday celebs will learn that there is always a camera around. News of the World nabbed a shot of Olympic record gold medal winner Michael Phelps smoking pot from a bong.

Olympic chiefs have announced laws that require four-year bans for taking drugs and, if Phelps tests positive for marijuana (which takes about a week to test clean with a urine test, more for hair… uh, not that I know from personal experience or anything), his hopes of a bid at the 2012 games in London could be dashed.

NOTW’s account includes desperate pleas from Phelp’s camp not to run the story, with several “extraordinary incentives” not to run the photo.

According to witness accounts, Phelps partied for two days in November in South Carolina and that’s when the pot pic was taken. The site quotes a party-goer as saying, “He was out of control from the moment he got there.

“If he continues to party like that I’d be amazed if he ever won any more medals again.”

He was at a house party at the University of South Carolina for the huffing and puffing on Nov. 6. He was visiting Jordan Matthews, a girl he was secretly seeing who was a student there.

Another source said “Michael came to visit Jordan but ended up just getting wasted every night. … He arrived with a group of girls hanging all over him. Jaws hit the floor when he walked in. You don’t get many celebrities in Columbia, so when Phelps comes to your party it’s a very big deal.

“He didn’t know many people so you’d think he’d be a little shy. But he was loud, obnoxious and slamming beers from the get-go.

“Every girl wanted a piece of him and every guy wanted to be his best buddy. He couldn’t get enough of all the attention.”

He was drinking the entire time and didn’t hesitate to light up, claims the source.

“You could tell Michael had smoked before. He grabbed the bong and a lighter and knew exactly what to do.

“He looked just as natural with a bong in his hands as he does swimming in the pool. He was the gold medal winner of bong hits. Michael ended up getting a little paranoid, though, because before too long he looked like he was nervous and ran out of the place.”

Company wants to see Zellweger’s diary

Isn’t it ironic? Doncha think? Someone is looking to subpoena the diary of “Bridget Jones’ Diary” star Renee Zellweger.

According to TMZ, Zellweger was filming “Cinderella Man” in 2005 and the filming was stopped because Russell Crowe dislocated his shoulder.

There was a seven week delay as a result, so production took longer. Zellweger had other projects she couldn’t do as a result, so the insurance company for the film negotiated a payout to her, reportedly of about $3 million to account for the missed opportunities.

The insurance company is now suing over the debacle and wants to know what Zellweger did during the time off, to prove she actually had suffered financially. And what better way to account for that than her diary.

The judge has not yet ruled on the matter.

Alyson Hannigan talks cravings, ‘pregnancy brain’

Pregnancy has had some unexpected cravings and feelings for Alyson Hannigan, she told talk show host Ellen DeGeneres Friday.

“I get tired a lot and I have pregnancy brain, which I never realized was a thing but it is,” the “How I Met Your Mother” star said. “I sort of feel like a Koala bear where I’m slightly stoned all the time and I’ll say the wrong word.”

Ellen DeGeneres returned, “I’m not pregnant, but I have that brain too. I don’t have an excuse.”

Among Hannigan’s cravings are ginger ale, a first for the non-pop drinker.

“I didn’t drink soda before and suddenly it was like, ‘I need a ginger ale,’ and surprisingly my mother craved ginger ale when she was pregnant with me as well.”

Hannigan and her husband, actor Alexis Denisof, know the gender of their child, but plan to keep it a secret until he or she is born.

“We’re just not announcing to the world,” Hannigan explained. “It seems a little personal.”

Hannigan is due in the spring.

‘New Moon’ rising for Dakota Fanning?

Dakota Fanning is little bloodsucker. Well, almost. She’s near signing on to join the “Twilight” series as the villainous Jane, a child-like vampire able to inflict pain with the power of her mind.

“It’s not 100 percent yet set in stone but it’s definitely not totally untrue or a rumor,” Fanning said about her role in the the soon-to-film “New Moon” while promoting her upcoming animated film Coraline Friday in Los Angeles. “It’s definitely a possibility and I think it would be really, really fun to be a part of.”

Rumors have circulated about Fanning joining the cast for the last few weeks and the role is a bit more villainous than parts past.

“I think just playing an evil vampire is really cool,” she says. “If I got to do (New Moon), that’d probably be the most fun part.”

She’s a fan of her potential costars, including Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner.

“I’m a big fan of the cast. To join it would be a really great honor and I really hope that it works out,” Fanning said.

Here’s hoping this is a role she can take a bite out of. See, I can inflict pain with the power of my puns…

Birkhead is a good dad, says the weeping judge

Larry Birkhead is a good dad, says the weeping judge.

Judge Larry Seidlin met Anna Nicole Smith’s 2-year-old daughter, Dannielynn, for the first time Friday when she and her dad surprised him during a visit to Larry King Live.

Seidlin famously cried during the custody battle with attorney Howard K. Stern and baby-daddy Larry Birkhead against Anna Nicole Smith’s mother, Virgie Arthur, for custody of Smith’s remains,

“She’s a beautiful little girl and I’m glad everything is working out,” Seidlin told E! News about the meeting. “Larry is a great father.”

“On walks Larry with Dannielynn running next to him,” Seidlin said. “When they said ‘surprise guest,’ I thought maybe it was (former Yankees manager) Joe Torre or someone. I was not expecting to see her!”

The interview was taped Friday but will air Monday, a week before the second anniversary of Smith’s death on Feb. 8.

Wal-Mart deal a mistake, says Springsteen

If the stretch pants and the soul-crushing feeling of the place didn’t tip him off, the actual experience did it. Bruce Springsteen admits that signing a deal with Wal-Mart for an exclusive distribution of his greatest-hits CD was a mistake,

In an interview with The New York Times, Springsteen said he shouldn’t have made a deal. Fans criticized him for signing because the musician has supported worker’s rights in the past and Wal-Mart isn’t exactly a bastion of worker-friendly policies. Unless you consider union-busting worker-friendly.

Springsteen’s team didn’t vet the issue as closely as it should have, and that he “dropped the ball on it,” he told the Times.

“It was a mistake. Our batting average is usually very good, but we missed that one. Fans will call you on that stuff, as it should be,” Springsteen said.

“Millions of Springsteen fans have counted on Wal-Mart over the years to deliver his music into their lives, and we it will continue to offer those fans this ‘Greatest Hits’ exclusive and his other popular albums at unbeatable prices,” Wal-Mart said in a statement, adding: “We are proud of the good jobs, benefits and career opportunities we provide to more than 1.4 million U.S. associates who choose to work at Wal-Mart and serve our customers every day.”

Springsteen released his new CD “Working on a Dream” this week and is performing the halftime show at the Super Bowl Sunday.

Nick Lachey defends his ex

Nick Lachey is among the cavalcade of stars out to defend Jessica Simpson’s curves. Ashlee Simpson-Wentz went to bat for her sister and Heidi Klum and fellow curvy girl Kim Kardshian told the press to lay off and now her ex-husband has spoken up. A bit luke warm, but he’s talking.

“I hope she’s happy, whatever size she comes in,” Lachey told Extra. “I wish her nothing but the best.”

“I can’t believe it’s this big of a story and people are making such a huge deal about it,” Lachey said. “I’m never ceased to be amazed by people’s reaction to things.”

Spears gets restraining order

The “friend” who may have led Britney Spears down the path to crazy town is a friend no more. The singer got a restraining order against former pal Osama “Sam” Lutfi and one-time boyfriend Adnan Ghalib, an anonymous source told the Associated Press.

Attorneys for Spears and her father, Jamie Spears, who is her legal conservator, received the order Friday. According to the source, Lutfi and others were trying to gain control of Spears’ affairs.

Lutfi was a manager and friend of Spears and Ghalib, a photog, once dated Spears. Lynne Spears once accused Lutfi of grinding pills into her food to control her.

TMZ’s accounting of the order said it was unclear the terms. The order also listed Jon Eardley, an attorney who once claimed to be Spears’ attorney and tried to get her conservatorship case moved to federal court.

A court official said the documents are still in the judge’s chambers. The singer had a temporary restraining order this summer, but it expired in July.

Spears was placed under her father’s conservatorship a year ago on Sunday.

DMX sentenced to 90 days

DMX is going to jail. The rapper was sentenced to 90 days in jail Friday for convictions on theft, drug-possession and animal-cruelty charges.

DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, also was placed on at least 18 months’ supervised probation by Maricopa County Superior Court Commissioner Phemonia Miller.

Simmons pleaded guilty Dec. 30 and has been in Maricopa County Jail since his arrest Dec. 9 in Miami on a warrant for failure to appear on the charges.

The Arizona Republic reported that the star smiled when he entered the courtroom, but sat down in pain. He claimed he had pain in his feet and knees and thought he was suffering from gout.

Despite the prosecutor’s objections, Miller said she would allow Simmons to apply to serve his sentence in Florida, the Republic said.

The animal-cruelty and drug charges are related to a raid in August 2007 at the rapper’s home in Cave Creek, a Phoenix suburb. Authorities investigating a report of animal abuse found three dead dogs, guns, ammunition and drug paraphernalia.

He was not given credit for time served and will not get out of jail until the end of April, said Mike Anthony Scerbo, a spokesman for Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, which prosecuted the case.

Kanye West is craaazy

Another celebrity WTF moment. This is the reason celebrities should have to stay away from video posting sites as Kanye West rambles nonsensically for a minute and a half. If anyone knows WTF he’s talking about, please post below:

‘Harry Potter’ stuntman injured

True terror rang out on the Harry Potter set Wednesday when Daniel Radcliffe’s stuntman was seriously injured and sent to the hospital.

The man has been Radcliffe’s double for all the Potter films, but his name isn’t being released “out of respect for his family.”

The 25-year-old is in the hospital with serious back injuries.

The man was running through stunts at England’s Leavesden Studios during preproduction for “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” During an aerial sequence in which the stuntman was suspended by a harness, a planned blast somehow went wrong and he crashed to the ground.

British newspapers report that he was conscious after the fall, but crew members said the injured man was unable to feel his legs.

“The person has been taken to hospital and we are awaiting further news,” Warner Bros. said in a statement.

“Paramedics were called to Leavesden Studios yesterday at 11:35 a.m. after a man in his 20s sustained a significant back injury,” a spokesman for East of England Ambulance Service said. “He was stabilized at the scene and taken to Watford General Hospital.”

He has since been transferred to an undisclosed facility.

Because the accident took place during preproduction for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Radcliffe and the film’s marquee stars were not on set at the time.

Is Joaquin Phoenix punking the people?

It’s clear that Joaquin Phoenix’s rap career is a joke. But the question is whether the actor and singer is in on it.

Entertainment Weekly speculated that Phoenix and his brother-in-aw Casey Affleck were punking audiences with his supposed transition from Oscar-nominated actor to falling-off-the-stage rapper while Affleck films his “documentary” of it. But Phoenix’s rep said this career switch is no hoax at all. Definitely not. No, siree.

In a statement to PEOPLE on Thursday, the spokeswoman said, “I believe the transition from one career to another is never smooth. Unfortunately, Joaquin has had to make this transition in the spotlight of fame.”

She added, “He comes from a musical family and won a Golden Globe and an Emmy for his portrayal of Johnny Cash. He intends to explore his musical interests despite speculative, negative or positive reactions.”

Hmm. Me thinks thou doth protest too much.

Anna Faris and Chris Pratt engaged

Actress Anna Faris is heading down the aisle with “Bride Wars” star Chris Pratt. E! News reports that Pratt popped the question to the “Scary Movie” star in late 2008.

“He’s awesome,” Faris told People of Pratt in August. “He’s a great, great guy. I feel really lucky.”

She was previously married to actor Ben Indra for nearly four years before the two split last February.

Faris made big numbers in “The House Bunny” this summer and will co-star with Seth Rogen in the comedy “Observe and Reporter.” Pratt is also known for his role on the critically-acclaimed and ratings-anemic WB show, “Everwood.”

20th Century Fox rescues ‘Narnia’ franchise

Much like the religious undertones within it, the family-friendly Narnia franchise has come back to life.

Disney decided not to co-finance the next installment, “Voyage of the Dawn Treader” with Walden Media. However, 20th Century Fox said Wednesday that it plans to take over Disney’s slot.

Daily Variety reported that the next film will have a production budget of $140 million – down considerably from the $215 million of 2008′s “Prince Caspian” but still a pretty big gamble.

Variety said “Dawn Treader is considered to be a more family film-friendly book, and the goal is to get back to the magical aspects present in the first Narnia pic but mostly absent from Prince Caspian.”

Jennifer Love Hewitt loving on her costar?

Jennifer Love Hewitt may have found new love after breaking off her longterm engagement to Scottish actor Ross McCall.

The “Ghost Whisperer” star was seen with her castmate Jamie Kennedy, enjoying a cozy meal at the Los Angeles restaurant Pace, reports Celebuzz. The spotting comes just two weeks after they were seen together at West Hollywood’s Apple Lounge just after her split from McCall.

Us Weekly reports that despite having set a date and bought a dress, Hewitt’s previous relationship was fraught with neediness and insecurity.

“She would drag him on the set and then pout and they’d fight. Mainly, it was her needing something from him: ‘Can you say you love me?’” Ghost costumer Caludia Wick said.

Hopefully Kennedy will be able to worship Hewitt in the manner to which she’s become accustomed.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck pregnant with third child

Elisabeth Hasselbeck, 31, is knocked up again. The View’s village idiot resident conservative announced on Thursday’s show that she is pregnant with her third child.

“I’m pregnant again! I’m due in August. I’ll try to pop this one out before we leave (on summer hiatus), Barbara (Walters),” Hasselbeck said of the surprise pregnancy.

The host and her husband, former NFL quarterback Tim Hasselbeck, have two children, Grace, age 3, and son Taylor, who just turned a year old.

Super Bowl ad sneak peek

The best part of Super Bowl Sunday (other than the hot wings) are the ads, of course. But why wait? Adweek is participating in “strategic leaking” and posted some of the Super Bowl ads, featuring spots from Coke, H&R Block,, GoDaddy, and Pedigree (I’m particularly unimpressed by the pretty, but nonsensical Coca Cola avatar ad). No stand-outs thus far, but here are a few samples of what a few million dollars a minute will buy you:

Kate Hudson hits the cover of In Style UK

Kate Hudson steps out on the cover of the March issue of In Style UK for an exclusive interview along with one of her closest friends, designer Stella McCartney.

Kate and Stella invited In Style UK to join them when they met up in London. Click here to read the story and check out a sampling of quotes from the interview:

Kate on Stella’s clothes
“Stella makes clothes that are easy to wear. I find that of all the clothes I have in my closet, when I’m hurrying and want to just look nice and put something on, they are Stella’s”

Stella on Kate’s style
“Kate comes across as an effortless dresser, I have to say. I’ve seen you get dressed super-duper quick and, yeah, you do just pull things out of the closet in a flash and look amazing. Then I’ve seen you get ready in a more red-carpet kind of way where things are carefully planned out. You’re a real grown-up in that respect. I’m just so not like that. But you make stuff look good too.”

Kate on her own style
“Sometimes I feel a bit schizophrenic, like I have no idea! When I’m going somewhere and I’m tired and not thinking about it at all, what I end up wearing is what I would say my style is. I like things that are comfortable and flowy

Mickey Rourke is ready to rumble

Actor Mickey Rourke is taking his screen role to the real world. He said he’s ready to take on WWE superstar Chris Jericho at Wrestlemania 25 in Reliant Stadium on April 5.

Rourke portrays professional wrestler Randy the Ram in the acclaimed movie “The Wrestler.”

He made a surprise announcement Sunday night on the red carpet before the Screen Actors Guild Awards in Los Angeles that he’s signed to wrestle Jericho, for real.

Rourke said he was pleased by the acceptance of the movie by all the WWE wrestlers – except Jericho.

Then Rourke said he was going to toss Jericho “around the ring like tossed salad.”

On WWE television, Jericho returned fired in typical TV wrestling style as well. He said Rourke was out of line and that he was offended by Rourke’s comments. He said Rourke made “a mistake.”

Let’s get ready to rumble!

Kelly Rowland dumps her manager

Destiny is not keeping Kelly Rowland and Beyonce’s dad professional. Rowland has parted ways with her manager Matthew Knowles, the father of her former bandmate Beyonce Knowles.

Despite rumors to the contrary, the split is amicable. Knowles has managed Rowland since before Destiny’s Child and continued overseeing her solo career.

Rowland used to live with the Knowles family before they formed Destiny’s Child and was raised by Matthew and Tina Knowles. Rowland and Matthew Knowles say that they will always be family regardless of the professional split.

No word on who will be managing her career now.
