Elizabeth Edwards’ memoir blasts John and his mistress

edwardsI think most people were sickened at the news that would-be president and former senator John Edwards cheating on his cancer-afflicted wife. The news literally make Elizabeth Edwards sick to her stomach.

“I cried and screamed. I went to the bathroom and threw up,” she writes in a new memoir, “Resilience,” due out May 12. The New York Daily News nabbed an advance copy of the book.

Elizabeth is battling terminal breast cancer and learned of the affair just days after Edwards began his 2008 presidential race.

Like any good politician’s wife, Elizabeth publicly stood by John, but confesses in the book that she wanted him to drop out of the race.

“He should not have run,” she writes. Elizabeth also says John originally lied to her when he confessed his indiscretion, claiming it only happened once, leaving “most of the truth out.”

She has no pity for the other woman either, Rielle Hunter, never mentioned by name but tarred and feathered all the same.

Hunter was hired to make short films on the campaign and Elizabeth describes her as a groupie, whose life is “pathetic.”

John, however, may get some forgiveness from his wife.

“I lie in bed, circles under my eyes, my sparse hair sticking in too many directions, and he looks at me as if I am the most beautiful woman he has ever seen. It matters,” she writes.

Sigh. Now even I half want to forgive him.
