Expensive divorce ahead for Gibson
Love hurts, but divorce hurts the bank account even worse. Mel Gibson’s pending divorce from wife Robyn Gibson may be one of the biggest Hollywood has ever seen.
With no known prenup, Robyn is entitled to half of everything Mel has made since they married in 1980, about $1 billion. Gibson is an actor, director and producer and has revenue from all those sources as well as more than $100 million in real estate investments.
If she takes home $500 million, that would trump past settlements like Michael Jordan’s $168 million to ex-wife Juanita, the $150 million Neil Diamond surrendered to Marcia Murphey in 1994 and Stephen Spielberg’s $100 million to Amy Irving in 1989.
Plus, she could be entitled to half his film residuals in the future. Still, the couple claims to want an amicable split, so a settlement should soon be in the offing. $100 million, $300 million, really, who can quibble?
