My Favorite Episode of “90210″
In honor of September 2, 2010 (AKA “9.02.10″ Day), I think the idea was to present your favorite episode of the original 90′s series, so here is my favorite episode of the bunch! I’m gonna go into great detail, so try to keep up! Check it out, towards the last half of Season 8, a little known actress named Jessica Alba appeared in two episodes as “Leann”.
It’s actually one of the very few performances that I actually liked from Jessica. In the dual-arc episodes, Jessica’s character is a 16-year old pregnant girl! Can you believe it? A role that doesn’t seem to difficult too play for Jessica!

Anyway, early in the first episode, Leann enters Jennie Garth’s clinic with contractions only to find out that she’s already in labor. “I’m not due for another month!” says Leann. Jennie Garth tells her to wait while she gets a doctor but since Leann is hiding a secret, she leaves the clinic much to Jennie Garth’s chagrin much later.

Three scenes later, Jennie Garth closes up the clinic and exits through the back door and finds a perfectly healthy baby boy in a box near the doorway! Wait a minute, I thought the baby was a month premature!

So after the first commercial break, Jennie Garth heads over to Leann’s house to confront her only to get shut down. “My mother’s a nightmare, okay!” says Leann.

Midway through the episode, Jennie Garth gives the baby boy over to Social Services and the boy quickly gets adopted by (SHOCK) two gay men! Nuh-uh! Brandon (Jason Priestly) ends up writing about the adoption in his newspaper and Leann ends up reading the article! At the end of the episode, Leann then goes back to the clinic and confronts Jennie Garth to get her baby back DUNH-DUNH-DUHN! END OF EPISODE!

So in the following week’s episode, Leann goes over to the Social Services office. She tells Jennie Garth that she ain’t down with her baby getting raised by a “couple of queers” as Leann so finely states. A few gay-bashing comments later, Leann gets the baby back from the two men.

Towards the end of the episode, Jennie Garth visits Leann at home the next day only to find out that Leann’s not doing as well with the baby as she had hoped. “I love my baby” says Leann. “Do you? Do you really?” retorts Jennie.

And at the end of the second episode, the two men show up at Brandon’s house to say that they got the baby back. Turns out, Leann changed her mind and gave the baby to two “parents” and not two “gay men”.
.
All in all, Jessica Alba’s episode was really just a lesson in tolerance of homosexuality and teen pregnancy (although it technically really wasn’t the focus of the episode at all). It’s amazing that Jessica’s character is one that you pity early on in the story and then one that you end up hating towards the end due to to her gay-bashing, but at least it had a happy ending. The episode used to air frequently on the SOAP Network but I think it’s available on DVD, so if you didn’t know she was in it, now you do! Happy 90210 Day!
