Top 5 Actresses That Should Be Superstars. But Aren’t.
If there’s one thing an actress should dread, it’s being mediocre. And what does it say about an actress’ career when they get past the age of 30 yet they still haven’t found that ONE breakout role to get them into the Super A-List?
Think about it, you have a giant list of young actresses in Hollywood. Some are on the verge of a mega-career (like Olivia Wilde and Emma Stone) and there are some that are on the tip of everyone’s tongue (like AnnaLynne McCord and Dianna Agron). But THEN….you have THESE ladies who are still trying to get a taste of being a mega-superstar. These girls ain’t doing Angelina Jolie-type of movie dollars, that’s for sure.
IMO, these are the Top 5 actresses that SHOULD be huge A-List superstars, but aren’t. These are the girls that get tons of votes every year in various “Hot lists” from Maxim and FHM and People, yet they can’t star in a blockbuster movie on their names alone. These are the ladies who have been in the movie biz for almost TEN years or more yet are still NOT considered bankable. Sure, they’ve had a few gimmies but the rest of their filmographies consist of more misses than hits. Who am I talking about? Read on below….
#1 – JESSICA ALBA
Oh Jessica, Jessica, Jessica. As much as I loathe this vile, evil woman, it’s still a shame that she isn’t a bigger star. Her one big breakout role (critically and financially) was in the flick, “Sin City” back in 2005. She followed that up with the “Fantastic Four” movies….and hasn’t recovered since then. Every headlining movie she’s done since the end of 2005 has gone down the shitter (“Into The Blue”, “Awake”, “The Eye”, The Love Guru”, “Good Luck Chuck”, “The Killer In Me”) and critics alike use every opportunity they can to rip into Jessica’s wooden acting abilities. Hey, the Raspberry Awards love her just as much her non-existent audience!
Her beauty certainly hasn’t quelled her from being in lots of “Hot lists” and she’s been seen everywhere with her Revlon ads, but I guess a pretty face doesn’t equal big bucks in that Hollywood sense. Plus she’s vile and evil, too.
#2 – JESSICA BIEL
The other Jessica AKA Jessica Biel is also another name that everyone knows of, yet no one will watch her movies. Hell, she finally got topless in one of her films and NOBODY saw it! But unlike Alba, Jessica Biel has taken a few daring choices in her movie roles, most of which were small and has gotten a few points for them. So far, the last big role she had was in last year’s “The A-Team” flick and that movie surely wasn’t any better with or without her name attached to it.
In fact, I remember back in 1999 when J. Biel was trying to break out of her “7th Heaven” phase by posing partially nude for Gear Magazine. It was from that point that I thought she’d get all the big roles and attention. Well, Maxim and Esquire paid attention, but Hollywood hasn’t.
#3 – JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT
Jennifer Love Hewitt is one of those starlets that had a great promising career ahead of her. She was in “Party Of Five” and tons of magazines like Maxim and Rolling Stone printed endless photos of her in sexy clothing, so why isn’t she a bigger star then?
I’ve read various articles about how Jennifer lost TONS of movie roles for big Hollywood movies. Producers seem to think that her range as an actress isn’t good enough, which is probably why JLH still hasn’t headlined her own big-time Hollywood movie. Sure, she was in “The Ghost Whisperer” but that’s all she’s had since then! In fact, I think the last big movie she was in was the first “Garfield” movie back in 2004.
I don’t know, I certainly think she’s got the chops to be much bigger than she is now (rather than just tabloid fodder about being fat).
#4 – KATE BECKINSALE
Kate Beckinsale should be a much bigger superstar, but no one seems to want to pay attention. Outside of her “Underworld” role, no one seems to want to watch Kate’s movies. In fact her last couple of flicks have all gone bust in the box office (“White out”, “Vacancy”, “Nothing But The Truth”). Well, it can’t be because of her acting skills because she’s classically trained, so what’s causing all this non-turn out?
But the paparazzi and the magazines love her and always place her in their “Hot lists” just like the ladies above, so she MUST be pushing someone’s buttons. It just isn’t the right ones.
#5 – ELIZA DUSHKU
And lastly, poor Eliza Dushku. She showed promise when she starred in the first “Bring It On” and “Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back”. So she pretty much piqued in 2001 and every movie, straight-to-DVD, and TV show she’s done have all gone straight into the crapper. What the Hell happened? This girl should be a bigger star than mutherfuckin’ Kirsten Dunst!
It’s a sad reality that all these women are not the large bankable stars as their peers. Adding their names to the movie poster doesn’t bring in the big bucks like it used to and I just can’t figure out why (although in Jessica Alba’s case, it’s because she’s a terrible actress).
