Spears jury is out

The great legal drama of Britney Spears may be just about over (at least until next time). Both sides have rested Thursday in the misdemeanor case over the pop princess’s alleged driving without a valid license.

One of Spears’ requisite members of the paparazzi and an investigator from the Department of Motor Vehicles (yeah, those two are making hearts go squish everywhere) testified for the prosecution. The investigator said that Spears had not applied for a California driver’s license as of Aug. 14, 2007. She hit a parked car on Aug. 22, 2007 and left the scene – supposedly still without it.

The state says that people who are residents of California or work there have to apply for a license within 10 days of doing so. Unless you’re a mega star on an entertaining downward spiral Without exception.

The photog, Sondro Rodregues testified that Spears spears at least 80 percent of her time in the Los Angeles area.

Also in evidence is a DMV printout proving that Spears didn’t have a license at the time of the accident and her divorce records state that she lived in California.

In a classic “depends what the definition of ‘is’ is” move Spears’ attorney, Michael Flanagan argued that Spears was “residing” in California but that she didn’t have residency there. He argued that Spears considers Louisiana her permanent home. Um, I consider “Ohio” home, Brit, but that doesn’t mean it’s my default residence.

Despite rumors of her househunting in California in the last few weeks, Flanagan said she plans to head back to the Bayou after her custody dispute is resolved and added that she’s building a house there.

The Louisiana license-carrying Spears applied for a license in the past but the DMV couldn’t take her photo so the paperwork couldn’t go though.

The defense called just Spears’ father, Jamie. Still in charge of Spears’ legal matters, he refused to let her testify. Spears did not attend any of the two-day trial.

He also verified that Spears had married and given birth in California (twice) but that a move is imminent.

The world waits with bated breath to see if Spears will have to pay a triple digit fine!

Ryan, Redmond O’Neal face felony charges

Redmond O’Neal’s “big misunderstanding” got a little bigger today. Ryan O’Neal and his son, Redmond, were charged Wednesday with felony possession of methamphetamine.

Authorities found the drugs during a probation-related police search of Ryan’s Malibu house and arrested Ryan, 67, and Redmond, 23.

In addition to the felony counts, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office charged Redmond with two misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and one misdemeanor count of illegal possession of pepper spray.

Ryan O’Neal’s attorney, Mark Werksman, says the actor “found it extremely frustrating and upsetting” to be charged.

“He’s not a drug user and he doesn’t want to be thought of as a drug user,” says Werksman.

Redmond, however, can’t say the same. He’s battled drug addiction for years and is halfway through a two-week treatment program.

“Dealing with Redmond’s problem over the years has been difficult for (Ryan) and his family, and this is another tough load for him to absorb,” Werksman says.

A Nov. 13 arraignment is scheduled.

Hayden Panettiere’s dad gets a delay

Hayden Panettiere’s dad has just made a deal. Alan Panettiere’s arraignment on a misdemeanor battery charge for allegedly striking his wife, Lesley, was postponed Tuesday and his lawyers managed to make a deal with the prosecutors to keep him free until the next date, Dec. 11.

He posted a $50,000 bail to keep him out and agreed to abide by a protection order that orders him not to ” harass, strike, threaten, assault (sexually or otherwise), follow, stalk (or) molest” his wife, to not “destroy or damage real property” and hand over to authorities any licensed handguns in his possession.

During his quick exit from the court room with his wife, Alan had no comment.

The charges stem from an Aug. 11 incident when Alan hit his estranged wife Lesley on the cheek after coming home from a party hosted by their daughter at Eva Longoria Parker’s restaurant, Beso.

As with many domestic violence incidents, police suspect alcohol was involved and an investigation is ongoing. If he’s convicted, Alan Panettiere faces up to a year in jail.

After the incident, Hayden Panettiere said the fight was “blown way out of proportion” by a local sheriff “who wanted his 15 minutes of fame” and that her family was doing “great.”

Conseco caught smuggling steroids

According to KLAC-AM, Jose Canseco has been detained at the U.S.-Mexico border for alleged possession of steroids. I do not think it is alleged at all. We all know that he is a roider. How stupid can he be?

This dude has money coming out of his ass and yet he is gonna do something dumb like this. Well, you hit a home run this time buddy…

Nikki Blonsky tells her side

There are two sides to every bitchy throw down and Nikki Blonsky is telling hers. The “Hairspray” star got into fist fight July 30 involving the family of former “America’s Next Top Model” contestant Biana Golden.

Blonsky rebuts Golden’s account of the fight and told PEOPLE magazine that she and her father, Carl, are “completely destroyed” by the incident.

“The hardest part for me is to see my parents walk around in severe upset and sadness,” she says.

The brawl began in the departure area of Providenciales International Airport in Turks and Caicos. The Golden family was returning from a family reunion with a dying relative and Blonsky claims they got mad when passengers were saving seats in the rest area.

Blonsky says that when she asked Golden not to point her finger in her face, the reality contestant got violent and began swearing: “That’s when she stood up, pulled her arm all the way back and said, ‘F— you, you white b—-.’ And she closed her fist and punched me.”

She pronounced Golden’s claims that the actress kicked Elaine Golden in the groin and that Carl punched Elaine in the face.

“Absolute lies,” said Nikki.

Nikki, Carl and Bianca all face assault charges related to the fight. Let’s hope the trials are in separate court rooms or I suspect we’ll have another airlift to

Redmond O’Neal off to rehab

They tried to make him go to rehab. And he’s going to go, go, go.

Redmond O’Neal, 23, was ordered into a two-week treatment program Wednesday after admitting that he had relapsed. The son of Ryan O’Neal and Farrah Fawcett was arrested along with his dad in September on suspicion of methamphetamine possession.

No criminal charges have been filed against the O’Neils in relation to the Sept. 17 arrests. During a routine probation checkup, officers allegedly found meth in Redmond’s possession and another vial in Ryan’s bedroom.

Redmond was two months into a three-year probation for DUI and possession of heroin and crystal meth.

“You’re a stand-up guy to come here and deal with your problem,” Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Scott Millington told Redmond, who also checked into rehab in 2004 to treat a heroin addiction. “I want you to stay clean… You better stay clean or the hammer is going to fall.”

Ryan says he is innocent and the deputies shouldn’t have arrested him:

“Those were not Ryan’s drugs, he doesn’t use drugs, and has nothing to do with them,” Ryan’s attorney Mark Werksman said. “It’s a dangerous assumption for deputies to have arrested Ryan just because he was in proximity to the drugs.”

Britney says no deal

Oh, Britney, I hope you don’t live to regret this.

The pop star rejected a plea deal in her misdemeanor driver’s license case. The court offered her a year’s probation and a $150 fine.

Her attorney, J. Michael Flanagan said Spears would consider a deal if the charges are reduced to an infraction and the fine set at $10. If it goes to trial and she’s convicted, he plans to appeal.

Flanagan says the singer is being unfairly targeted because she is a celebrity and doesn’t deserve a blemish on her criminal record.

The charge is the last piece of a criminal case from an August 2007 incident in which Spears hit a parked car and left without notifying the owner.

Britney’s headed back to court

It looks like the courts are going to get a piece of Britney Spears.

Her lawyers asked a three-judge panel to toss out a misdemeanor charge of driving with an invalid license from 2007, but a three-judge panel denied the request.

The unanimous decision was stated in a one-page ruling with no explanation.

Back on Sept. 29, Spears’ attorney, Michael Flanagan, filed a 51-page motion in Los Angeles Superior Court to “immediately stay all proceedings” until the appellate court made its ruling. He argued that Spears was being persecuted because of her celebrity.

The case is set to go to trial Oct. 15. A pretrial hearing is set for Wednesday.

Heather Mills in a pool of trouble

Paul McCartney knows this well, but Heather Mills is a naughty little bird. The ex-wife of the Beatles singer was caught building a swimming pool at her home in East Sussex without permission from the local council.

Planners found the pool while visiting Mills’ home in in Robertsbridge, East Sussex to make sure she’d taken down the huge sign she’d built illegally. The sign had been dismantled, but Mills did not have the proper paperwork for the pool.

She has been ordered to submit an application to the council for such a project. If it gets denied, the pool will have to

They have now ordered her to submit an application for the pool – and if permission is denied, Mills will have to fill it in.

Mills bought the property in 2007 so she and her daughter Beatrice could be close to McCartney’s home in nearby Peasmarsh.

Mindy McCready back to jail

Mindy McCready is going back to jail. The country star will surrender to authorities Tuesday and will serve 60 days in a Tennessee jail for a probation violation.

McCready was arrested in June for violating her probation for prescription drug fraud.

In another message on her Web site, McCready said, “I am working very hard to put all of this behind me as quickly as possible so I can get back to what I like to do most: sing, write songs and entertain. I would like to thank my fans for their unwavering support as I continue to work on my recovery and to regain custody of my precious son, Zander.”

The singer headed to rehab July 16 for undisclosed reasons. She served time in 2007 after violating probation on a 2004 drug arrest.

Surprise! Another rapper arrested…

In what’s sure to be shocker to the music scene, rapper Webbie was arrested and charged with felony eluding, driving under the influence and misdemeanor possession of marijuana after a high-speed police chase Sunday.

Webbie (aka Webster Gradney Jr.) was arrested in Hattiesburg, Miss. and is being held at the Forrest County Jail pending an initial court appearance.

According to police reports, Webbie was driving a 2009 Dodge Challenger when police tried to pull him over for a traffic violation on I-59. He ignored police lights and continued down the highway, eventually hitting another vehicle. The car was found the damaged Challenger – with pot inside – in a parking lot on U.S. 49.

Police later stopped a gray sedan and Gradney was arrested, authorities said.

Webbie’s album “Savage Life 2″ made the rap charts this year.

Maybe next year he can don some fugly jewelry and marry a gold-digging ho to complete the rapper’s trifecta.

Celebs Can Get Parking Tickets Too….

Hayden Panettiere arrives at her car when she spots, A TICKET!!!! Oh MY GOD. You mean she can’t flirt her way out of it? She seems to think it is funny though as she smiles for the photogs while she takes the ticket off of her car. She is probably laughing cause she knows that regardless of what the ticket amount is, it is no sweat off her back.

‘Lost’ star pleads no contest to DUI

Look out Jin (who, uh, may or may not be dead already). “Lost” star Daniel Dae Kim (seen here in his 2007 mug shot) pleaded no contest to drunken driving charges Friday. He faced a $500 fine.

He was arrested in Honolulu Oct. 25 when a police officer spotted him driving erratically. A blood alcohol content came in at 0.168 – more than double the state’s legal limit. He’s the third “Lost” alum to get nailed for DUI in Hawaii. The other two – Michelle Rodriguez and Cynthia Watros – were arrested in 2005 and their characters bit the big one not too long after their guilty pleas.

District Judge William Cardwell told Kim:
“You need to understand that 0.168 is more that double the legal limit. It means you were seriously impaired. And it just cannot happen again. It’s simply too dangerous.”

“Believe me, sir, I do,” Kim replied. The judge also revoked Kim’s driver’s license, must have a drug-and-alcohol assessment, pay $212 in court fees and perform 72 hours of community service.

Kim told the Associated Press after the hearing, “I’m just grateful and relieved that this matter has been resolved. It’s been a pretty difficult time for my family and me. But I’m glad I had a chance to take responsibility for my mistake.”

Kanye speaks

Kanye West speaks, albeit briefly on his altercation with the paparazzi yesterday at LAX. The musician and his bodyguard were arrested and charged with felony vandalism after destroying the photog’s camera.

Says the prickly rapper on his blog: “We back in the lab!!! I’m cool with the paparazzi. This guy wasn’t cool. I gotta work now… I’ll rant later!”

The two posted bail and left the LAPD’s Pacific Division Thursday afternoon. West continued his trip to Hawaii and arrived without further incident. Damn.

Kanye gets not-so-lovingly locked down

Kanye West has just been arrested at LAX for felony vandalism. A photographer attempted to take pictures of the rapper at the American Airlines terminal. West confronted the man, then smashed his camera into the ground, according to reports from TMZ.com, whose cameraman was involved in the scuffle.

A struggle ensued and one of West’s bodyguards grabbed the TMZ camera and threw it to the ground, breaking it, says the site.

West rushed the TMZ employee and ordered him to “Gimme that f*cking tape!”

Both West and his bodyguard have been arrested and are being held on $20,000 bail. The bodyguard also faces a charge of battery.

Apparently West is not stronger than the long arm of the law.

Duff’s dad does time

Lindsay Lohan isn’t the only star with a jailbird father. Hilary Duff’s father, Bob Duff, was taken to jail last week after a judge found him in contempt of court.

The arrest was just the latest in a series of family dramas for the Duff family

Bob told Inside Edition: “I was unfaithful to our marriage. I feel very badly about that and the effect that it had on the girls.”

Hilary hit the teen scene as the uber-popular precursor to Hannah Montana, Lizzie McGuire. Haylie found celebrity on television in a series of guest roles as well as a two-year stint on “7th Heaven.”

Bob says the pressure of raising their daughters in the spotlight took a toll on his marriage to Susan Duff.

“Susan was very consumed with the girls’ careers,” he stated. “We simply grew apart.”

Susan accused Bob, a millionaire owner of a chain of convenience stores, of selling off family assets without court approval. The judge agreed and ordered Duff to spend a day in jail.

Bob plans to appeal the contempt charge and hopes to mend fences will Hilary and Haylie.

Hathaway’s ex heads to prison

Hopefully this will be the end of the drama for poor Anne Hathaway, who made the mistake of getting swindled by an Italian businessman with whom she’d been romantically involved. The two split weeks before his arrest by the FBI earlier this summer.

Raffaello Follieri agreed to serve prison time Wednesday after admitting his tricked investors in a scheme to buy Catholic property on the cheap.

In a plea deal, he will not appeal any sentence of up to five years and three months in prison for wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy. He admitted “misappropriating” at least $2.4 million in investor funds. The sentencing is scheduled Oct. 3.

“I knew what I was doing was wrong,” he told U.S. District Judge John G. Koeltl in Manhattan. He has been in jail since his June 24 arrest, unable to make $21 million bail.

Prosecutors said he used the ill-gotten gains to fund his jet-setter lifestyle, including a $37,000-a-month penthouse suite at Trump Tower. Investigators found a letter from Vatican Cardinal Angelo Sodano ordering him to stop presenting himself as a Vatican representative, dated March 2006.

Part of the deal requires Follieri to give back more than $2 million in cash, jewelry and watches. Additional restitution is expected.

Outside court, Follieri’s lawyer, Flora Edwards, told CBS radio her client had become overwhelmed.

“As with many people, he got sidetracked by the need to adopt a lifestyle he couldn’t maintain,” Edwards said.

The lord forgives all sins, but I wouldn’t go asking for any plenary indulgence here, Raffaello.
